The Position

The Village of Valemount is currently seeking a Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to lead the organization, which has an annual operating budget of over $4 million and 15 employees.

The CAO is responsible for the overall management of the Village’s daily operations and the utilization of its human, financial and  hysical resources. The CAO works with the Mayor, Village Council, staff, and other parties to realize the community’s strategic vision and priorities. The CAO establishes clear goals for the senior management team and helps the team meet its objectives.

In addition, the CAO is responsible for helping build strong relationships with other local governments, First Nations, local businesses and diverse community organizations; identifying new opportunities for community development consistent with Valemount’s Official  community Plan; creating a visible presence with sincere interest in the community; showing respect and a strong commitment to tax
payers and developers; and ensuring the organization provides residents with efficient, high-quality services.

The Village of Valemount is currently executing the following Strategic Priorities (in no particular order):

Dedicating resources to the potential Valemount Glacier Destination Resort
Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw updates
Prioritizing First Nation Relations
Exploring geothermal opportunities
Developing Kinder Morgan Strategies
Developing Emergency Response Strategies
Developing a comprehensive Infrastructure Plan

The Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:

Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as public administration, business administration, commerce, law, etc;
Three to five years’ experience at a senior management level in a local government environment, preferably as a CAO or comparable experience;
Experience working with First Nations;
Strong team leadership, analytical and organizational skills;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Discretion, tact, and good judgment;
Willingness to be innovative, creative and entrepreneurial;
Demonstrated ability to work in a political environment, balance competing interests and function in a multi-stakeholder environment;
Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations and policies and to provide appropriate advice;
Ability to foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful work environment; and
Fun loving
