Environmental Stewardship Officer

Reporting to the Project Engineer, this newly created position performs technical inspection, education, and enforcement work related to environmental protection. Responsibilities

You will be responsible for spearheading the environmental review of development applications, processing soil deposit and extraction permit applications, conducting site inspections, coordinating instream works applications and approvals, investigating environmental complaints and enforcing relevant bylaws. Your considerable knowledge of the current practices and trends in your field will be essential to your success in this position.

Your excellent interpersonal skills will be put to good use as you establish and maintain contact and liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts such as Municipal staff, other government agencies, property owners, the public, environmental community groups, business representatives and developers.

Requirements

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biology, ecology, environmental sciences or related discipline, technical courses in environmental sciences plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You must also be certified or eligible for certification as a Certified Technician with the Applied Science Technologist & Technicians of British Columbia.
