The City of Parksville is seeking a qualified individual to join our Operations Department. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the incumbent will assume complete responsibility for a team dedicated to executing a wide variety of work undertaken by the department. This includes but is not limited to the responsibility for coordinating, planning and directing activities related to the day-to-day operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure including roads, water facilities [wells, river intake, pump station, distribution network], sanitary sewer collection system [pump stations and pipe network], storm drainage facilities, parks, open space, buildings, vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a blend of natural leadership skills, strong relationship building qualities and a commitment to delivering exceptional public services and best practices in municipal operations.

This role will provide the greatest satisfaction to a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands the complexities of local government and relishes coaching, developing and leading staff to reach their full potential. The City of Parksville is looking for a highly motivated, proven team leader with exceptional interpersonal, communications and public relations skills and a demonstrated ability to “change gears” quickly, analyze, assess situations, prioritize and exercise sound judgment on key municipal matters.

As the ideal candidate you will have graduated from a technical institute as a Certified Applied Science Technologist or have a post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field supported by management training and Level 2 Supervisor certification (or better) with the Public Works Association of BC (PWABC); a minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in a local government setting; plus five years in a managerial/supervisory capacity; experience in a unionized municipal environment is preferred.
