Area D – Rural Services Manager – Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen – Penticton, BC

Located in the south-central region of B.C., Electoral Area D is within the Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) and covers a geographic area including Okanagan Falls, Kaleden, Heritage Hills, Lakeshore Highlands, Skaha Estates, Apex, St. Andrew, Twin Lakes, and Marron Valley. The region is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys. The RDOS has an exciting career opportunity for an experienced professional who will bring innovative and effective leadership to the position of Area D – Rural Services Manager.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Services, the Area D – Rural Services Manager, based in Okanagan Falls, is responsible for liaising with the human resources committed to Area D; for facilitating all Area D community initiatives; identifying and fostering development opportunities; securing funding for Area D development activities and programs; ensuring public input into development plans and projects; and administering and monitoring community empowerment initiatives. The successful incumbent will supervise an administrative support person and the tourism office personnel to ensure community goals and requirements are met.

We are seeking a results-oriented individual with exceptional people management, problem solving, and decision making skills who has the ability to work on multiple tasks with deadline pressures. The successful incumbent will have a demonstrated knowledge of local government, possess excellent negotiation, tact and diplomacy skills and be motivated and committed to making a difference for the communities of Area D.

Further qualifications include:

Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related role, preferably in a local government environment
Strong knowledge and familiarity of a Regional District structure and the area as a whole
Ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations and communicate effectively with various stakeholders
Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends
Valid B.C. Driver’s License
