Cooperative Development & Events Management Intern – Halifax Brewery Market – Halifax

ABOUT THE POSITION
Halifax Brewery Market seeks to provide locally grown and harvested food in a festive atmosphere in the historic Alexander Keith Building in downtown Halifax. The Cooperative Development & Events Management Intern will bring enthusiasm and dedication to developing the Halifax Brewery Farmers Market Cooperative. They will coordinate community outreach efforts, fundraising initiatives and onsite special events. The Intern will work with the cooperative board, staff and stakeholders to expand the cooperatives benefits and membership. The candidate should be passionate about food, local farming and agriculture, and be knowledgeable about the Nova Scotia food & agriculture community. The Intern will report directly to the Market Manager & Program Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Cooperative Administration & Development
Cooperative Member-Vendor education initiatives & business incubation initiatives
Active vendor recruitment to the Cooperative membership
Add value to cooperative memberships
Support long-term and strategic planning initiatives of the Cooperative Board
Special Project Coordination (including grant writing and event sponsorship)
Special Event Coordination & Rentals
Develop a special events sales program
Organize & plan special events (delegating as necessary)
Develop & administer commercial kitchen rental program
Sponsorship & Fundraising
Develop a sponsorship and fundraising plan
Actively seek out new funding opportunities
Community Outreach
Marketing at events, conferences & tradeshows
Presenting or staffing booths at expositions and conferences
Represent the market in meetings with external stakeholders, building positive community relations.

POSITION DETAILS
This is a paid, part-time flexible internship position requiring a commitment of approximately 16-26 hours weekly at a rate of $18-20/hour. Work hours and location are flexible outside of market hours, though occasional availability on market days (Saturdays) is required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in fast-paced event coordination, administration, communication & marketing, self-directed time management, project coordination, grant writing.
Passion for locally produced food, involvement in local food politics, regular participation in a Farmers Market community.
Enthusiasm for and understanding of the not-for-profit and cooperative sectors. Sympathetic to historic buildings and Nova Scotia’s Farmers Market community.
Current Safe Food Handlers Certificate or interest in acquiring one.
