Database Administrator II – Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information – St John’s

The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information’s (the Centre’s) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Operations department is responsible for managing and sustaining the province’s EHR systems. The department is currently seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) II to provide business support to various teams across the Centre’s functional areas.

As Database Administrator II, you will be responsible for the general day-to-day maintenance of the database environment. This includes maintenance of roles and accounts; ensuring all backups are successful; and checking for any database related errors in applicable log files. You will also review and analyze the database environment to ensure maximum functionality, performance and redundancy. This includes evaluating and installing new software, patching existing software and providing design input for future builds or upgrades. In addition, this position will be responsible for ensuring safeguards are in place to protect EHR and NLCHI corporate data such as auditing database security protocols and providing the database requirements to any disaster recovery or business continuity plans as required.

To be successful in this role, you must have excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. You must also have strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical team members. A working knowledge of Oracle RAC, Oracle ASM implementations, the ITIL framework and a familiarity with EHRs is preferred. Given the nature of the information you will be working with, you must also have a strong understanding of privacy, confidentiality and access issues and the ability to deal with sensitive information using excellent judgment, diplomacy and discretion.

If you have a diploma or degree in computer science or a related field combined with a minimum of seven years work experience in a progressively responsible operational technical support role for database administration; experience working with a wide variety of technical platforms; and experience providing technical advice to project teams and management, then you should consider applying for this role. Certification in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) would be considered an asset. Please note that equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.
