Recreation Manager – District of Chetwynd – Chetwynd, BC

Reporting directly to the Director of Parks and Recreation or his/her designate, the Recreation Manager is responsible for the initiation, organization, implementation of programs in sport, outdoor, social, arts and cultural areas. Recruits and evaluates program instructors, promotion and assistance in fostering and developing leisure service programs for the District of Chetwynd and surrounding area. Supervises volunteers, part-time and seasonal staff engaged in the delivery of recreational services for people of all ages, needs and abilities, and encourages community involvement in leisure activities.

The successful candidate will:

Schedule and coordinate leisure programs, activities and events
Provide programs and assistance to the outlying area in order to promote leisure pursuits
Encourage community education towards the delivery of leisure services
Establish and maintain a high caliber of public relations with community groups and organizations, schools, Council, Civic Properties Commission, staff and media
Organize and implement children, teen, adult and seniors programs using existing facilities within the Recreation Complex and local schools
Liaison with the School District, school administrators, community groups and organizations to develop and/or maintain recreational activities
Organize and implement mandated special events for the District of Chetwynd and surrounding area
Develop volunteerism with the Recreation Complex
Train, supervise and coordinate the employees of the programs department
Supervise Recreation Clerks and perform scheduling as required
Ability to plan, organize, direct, schedule, supervise, and review activities of assigned staff; analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and make sound decisions and recommendations
Knowledge of Max Solutions facility booking software
Knowledge of When to Work staff scheduling software
Evaluate employees, recreational services and programs in consultation with the Director of Parks and Recreation or his/her designate
Prepare the annual budget for the programs department and submit to the Director of Parks and Recreation
Prepare reports, newsletters and evaluations as required
Carry out additional related tasks and functions as assigned by the Director of Parks and Recreation
Maintain facility usage statistics, i.e. Fitness center, arena programs etc.
Knowledge of the Worker’s Compensation Act and OH&S regulations applicable to the work area
Investigates and resolves complaints and concerns as may be generated by others
Flexibility to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends as and when required
Other duties as required from time to time

Minimum Requirements

Good organizational skills and time management
Proven written and verbal communication skills
Excellent public relations skills
Demonstrated knowledge of sports, fitness and leisure services
Proven ability to organize, supervise and evaluate programs
Current Emergency First Aid
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
Degree or Diploma in Recreation or related field
NCCP Certification in various sports (asset)
Fitness Certification (asset)
Ensures that staff are informed, and comply current policies that affect the operation
