Columbia Sportswear Canada is seeking Sales Associates to join our team. This job description is not meant to be an all inclusive list of duties and responsibilities, but constitutes a general definition of the position’s scope and function in the company.

General Position Summary:

Sell Columbia Sportswear merchandise in a friendly, accurate and customer service-oriented manner.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Perform good customer service by assisting customers in phone or in person.  Maintain positive customer relations through thank-you notes, phone calls or personal contacts.
Provide information to customers on current product features and benefits.  Requires maintaining current and accurate knowledge of product features, benefits and availability.
Perform all required cash register transactions such as sales and exchanges expeditiously and with a high level of accuracy.  Process returns only in absence of management.
Stock merchandise by receiving daily shipments and distributing to sales floor.
Maintain a neat orderly appearance of store facilities by cleaning, organizing and tidying.  Also requires keeping product sized and straightened.
Maintain a high professional standard in individual behaviour for the demonstration of respect, courtesy and professionalism.

Secondary Functions:

Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia Sportswear management, staff and other departments in order to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization.  Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Scope:

Job has some variety in terms of customer contact and needs.  Incumbent follows well-established store practices and procedures.  Duties are performed with specific directions and goals and work is checked or verified visually and by results.  Decisions are made within specific store policy constraints and there is always someone on duty to resolve questions or queries.  Errors in judgment could affect the profitability of the outlet store by affecting customer satisfaction.

Interpersonal Contacts:

Contacts are made with others both inside and outside the organization.  Internal contacts frequently include the Outlet Manager, Assistant Manager, and other outlet store staff.  External contacts almost always include customers.

Specific Job Skills:

Good interpersonal and service-oriented skills.  Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.  Basic math ability.  Mental ability to conduct interpersonal interactions with other company personnel and customers, and learn established guidelines.  Physical ability to use telephone, computerized cash register, perform repetitive movements of the arms and shoulders, stand for extended periods of time, move freely around store, and regularly lift/carry up to 40 pounds.

 Education and/or Experience:

High school education.  Experience in retail operations preferred.

Job Conditions:

Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week during peak periods.  Must be available to work weekends and holidays. Occasionally required to stand for long periods of time.
