Senior Administrative Officer – Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk

The Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk (Tuk) is an incorporated community located on the shores of the Arctic Ocean near the Mackenzie River Delta. It is the most northerly community on mainland Canada. The community’s traditional name is Tuktuujaartuq, which translate to “looks like a caribou” in Inuvialuktun. Our population is currently estimated at estimated at 900 residents, 90% of whom are inuvialuit. Tuk is a family friendly community that embraces the present while honoring its strong Inuvialuit culture and traditions. Hunting, fishing gathering and travelling on the land are important to sustaining the lives and lifestyles of our residents.

Today, Tuk is accessible year round by airplane, and seasonally by boat and the winter ice-road from Inuvik. In 2017 the new Inuvik-Tuk Highway will be completed and will provide all-season access to the community that has never before existed. This new road will also support many new opportunities for tourism, investment and development that are being discussed and planned today. The future of Tuktoyaktuk is exciting and challenging. It requires strong dynamic leadership and an administration that will both lead and work with the community to achieve shared goals and celebrate success.

Recognizing that changes are coming, Tuktoyaktuk is recruiting an experienced and qualified Senior Administrative Officer (SAO). As SAO you will work closely with the mayor and council as you help to develop and implement a vision and strategic plan that incorporates many of the opportunities and changes the community is currently working on.
