Executive Director – Environment Lethbridge – Lethbridge, Alberta

Environment Lethbridge is a new organization that inspires and equips people to create widespread community action and engagement towards sustainability.

Environment Lethbridge seeks an individual with strong leadership skills and extensive knowledge of not-for-profit management. The individual must have strong fund development, communications and networking skills. As a new organization the role will primarily involve fund development, setting up the organizations policies, procedures and internal processes, overseeing program development and developing and engaging a broad based network of community partners. This exciting position requires exceptional people skills and time management skills. Our new Executive Director will be challenged with setting priorities and creating new initiatives. This is a full time, permanent position based at our office in Lethbridge. The successful candidate will work 40 hours/week from our office in Lethbridge and evenings/weekends as required. Three weeks paid vacation per year will be provided. The Executive Director reports to the Environment Lethbridge Executive Committee. No health benefits are available at this time. Approximate start date is September 1, 2015.

Salary: $62,000 – $72,000 per year depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in related field (e.g. management, business, social science, science).
Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, including in management and fund development.
Passion for the environment is essential
Understanding of environmental science is considered an asset but not required.
Strategic, big picture focus and a passion for building strong organizations.
Knowledge of leadership and management principles and best practices related to not-for-profit/voluntary organizations.
Understanding of City of Lethbridge policies, procedures and local environment preferred.

Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.
Experience with management of finances, contracts and projects.
Experience recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers, contractors and staff.
Exceptional interpersonal skills (writing, speaking, listening, public speaking, media relations).
Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including: employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, societies and charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health coverage, WCB, etc.
Computer skills including proficiency in word processing, excel spreadsheets, email, website maintenance, social media.
Ability to foster team work and team building with a broad base of sectors.
Valid driver’s license and transportation.
