Invasive Plant Program Assistant – Peace River Regional District

The Peace River Regional District requires two (2) Temporary Positions for Invasive Plant Program Assistants for a 35 hour work week from approximately May 1, 2017 to August 31, 2017, situated in the Dawson Creek office.

The program consists of on the ground efficacy monitoring and inventory work, GPS point collection, landowner education programs, public education, enforcement, and collaboration with other agencies. On the ground control work is conducted through the Invasive Alien Plant Program, which allows detailed mapping of invasive plant occurrences, environmentally sensitive areas, and areas that have been treated. The program utilizes an Integrated Pest Management approach that employs mechanical, chemical, and biocontrol methods to achieve control objectives. Public education involves community hand-pull events, distributing brochures and giving presentations at public gatherings, fairs and to organizational groups, posting newspaper ads, creating videos and more.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, possess a valid Pesticide Applicator Certificate (Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weeds) or be willing to obtain such certification within 30 days of being hired. WHIMIS and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and abstract and a Criminal Record Check are also required. Preference will be given to candidates who have excellent plant ID skills and local knowledge of the Peace River area.

The after probation rate of pay for this union position is $23.22/hr (plus 14% in lieu of benefits) during the three month probationary period the rate of pay is $21.36/hr (plus 14% in lieu of benefits). A detailed job description can be obtained at:
