Police Clerical Assistant I – New Westminster Police Department

The New Westminster Police Department is seeking an experienced individual who will be responsible for receptionist work of some variety and complexity. The incumbent operates a switchboard and acts as receptionist, provides assistance to the public and internal contacts; processes requests for information; enters and retrieves information from the Police Records Information Management Environment (PRIME); and prepares and maintains a variety of files, forms and records.

REQUIREMENTS:
Sound knowledge of the standard switchboard operation, knowledge of software based switchboard operation is preferred.
Sound knowledge of police departmental functions/operations as well as the policies and procedures governing the work performed.
Sound knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures governing the use and operation of police databases (i.e. PRIME, CPIC, etc).
Ability to successfully use applicable software such as, Microsoft Office Suite 2010 as well as operate common office equipment.
Sound knowledge of clerical and record keeping methods, policies, and procedures and ability to perform related tasks with success.
Excellent business English, spelling, and arithmetic skills.
Ability to process a variety of requests for information from the public as well as outside agencies.
Demonstrate exemplary customer service skills.
Demonstrate tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
Ability to perform a variety of clerical and typing duties.
Ability to exercise initiative, prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision.
Ability to deal effectively and courteously with internal and external contacts.
Ability to prepare, process, and review a variety of documents and correspondence.
Ability to perform switchboard operational and receptionist duties calmly and efficiently.
Ability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute with a minimum accuracy of 85%.
Completion of Grade 12 plus related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience acceptable to the employer may be considered.

The successful candidate must be able to pass and maintain a background security clearance.
