Labourer I – City of White Rock – White Rock, BC

Casual (0-40 hours per week)

The City of White Rock is a unique, ocean-side community of 20,000 citizens known for its sunny weather, expansive beach, historic pier, delightful restaurants, and sense of community. The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay.

The Engineering & Municipal Operations Department seeks a several qualified customer service and team oriented Labourers to supplement their regular crew. Reporting to the Manager, Operations, and receiving daily direction from the Foreman, Operations, or Supervisor, Parks Maintenance and Irrigation, these positions work alongside a crew performing a variety of duties related to parks or public works. Assignments may include preparing and maintaining ground and turf areas, flowers, shrubs, and trees (e.g. planting, weeding, watering, and pruning). Labourers may also collect refuse, operate a variety of power equipment, assist with the construction of small structures, and perform routine equipment maintenance, inspections, and related record keeping. Other duties may include collection of solid and green waste, and recyclables. The successful applicant enjoys working outdoors in all types of weather, is able to work effectively both with a team and independently when required, and maintains their composure in all situations. Knowledge of the physical layout of White Rock is an asset.

Requirements:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent;
Previous labouring experience, including the operation of hand and power tools such as compressors, jackhammers, and cut-off saws and small and large power equipment (e.g. push or ride-on mower, string line trimmer, power edger, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, tractor);
Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and prepare and/or maintain simple records and reports;
Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence or equivalent with an acceptable driving record;
Air brake endorsement is considered an asset.
This endorsement is required to qualify for Recycling Collector rotation.
Must successfully pass a Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.

The hourly wage for this position is $26.47 with 11% in lieu of vacation and benefits.
