Executive Director – Community Sector Council of Nova Scotia – Halifax City

The Community Sector Council of Nova Scotia (CSC-NS) seeks an enterprising and innovative individual to work with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders to lead CSC-NS as it transitions from its start-up phase to the next step when it will assert and develop its position as a financially sustainable organization with a long-term strategic plan and multiple revenue streams.

Background
CSC-NS was formed in December 2012 with a mission to bring together non-profit and voluntary organizations to collectively and collaboratively address labour force and human resources challenges. The role of CSC-NS is to build organizational capacity within non-profit and voluntary groups and to act as a non-partisan voice for the sector.  The priorities are to help the sector achieve:

better management and planning of human resources;
improved strategies for attracting and retaining staff and volunteers;
greater access to training opportunities;
a stronger sense of identity and better capacity to form partnerships and act collectively.

Executive Director’s Role
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and development of the Community Sector Council according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.  The Executive Director oversees six regional hubs and is responsible for ensuring that CSC-NS is responsive to the needs and issues of non-profit and voluntary organizations across Nova Scotia.  The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a university degree in a related field of study or equivalent experience, and five or more years of progressive non-profit management and leadership experience.  The successful candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and experience to this position.

Terms and Conditions of Employment
The office of the Executive Director is located in downtown Halifax.  The position requires travel around the province.  The starting salary for the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience, to an initial annual maximum of $70,000.  The remuneration package includes full medical and dental benefits offered on a cost-shared basis.
